Man has always had the desire to commuicate and various forms of personal radio have existed over time, from the earliest Ham Radio networks, through the in cab CB radios, to person to person Walkie Talkies.

Ham Radio is a licensed radio company.  By definition, ham radio isn't a solitary activity.  Ham radio or amateur radio is a hobby pursued by more than 3 million people worldwide.

Although ham radio is primarily a hobby, it's serious business.  Ham radio is a communication hobby or some times classified as kind of sport.

Amateur radio was vital in  Hurricane Iniki when the only communication with Kauai was by ham radio.
Ham radio is used for short and long range communication and requires an FCC license.  If you're into DIY electronics, ham radio is heaven.  6  From here on, ham radio is like any other public conversation.

Amateur Radio is sometimes confused with other forms of personal radio, principally CB and Mobile Telephone.  Amateur radio is a name/description of the service.  By the way, no one really knows the real reason why amateur radio was abbreviated “ham” radio.

Amateur Radio is very fun, and it opens up a whole new world to anyone that does it.  Part of the fun of amateur radio is in improving your station to get better results.  Unlike commercial systems, Amateur radio is not as dependent on terrestrial facilities that can fail.

The seed for Amateur Radio was planted in the 1890s, when Guglielmo Marconi began his experiments in wireless telegraphy.  When we talk in hushed tones about the good old days when amateur radio was king, we just look foolish.  The amateur radio has become very organized since the first clubs of 1909.
For almost half a century, Amateur Radio has been my hobby and passion.  Getting started in Amateur Radio has never been easier.
